LOVE WITHOUT AN ECHO

LOVE WITHOUT AN ECHO

You say, “I love you.”

They say nothing.

You say it again the next day.

Silence.

A third time.

Still nothing.

Most people will tell you to walk away. Replace them. Find someone who answers back.

But that advice may reveal more about their definition of love than yours.

Because if love depends on a response, it is a transaction.

If it demands reciprocity, it is an exchange.

If it survives only when returned, it is a contract.

That is not love in its highest form.

True love is not proven by how well it is received. It is revealed by how freely it is given.

You do not love because someone echoes it back.

You love because love has become part of who you are.

Conditional love asks, “What will you give me?”

Unconditional love declares, “This is who I have chosen to be.”

One is fragile.

The other is immovable.

Real love is not a feeling that rises when appreciated and disappears when ignored. It is not a sentence spoken to receive validation. It is not an emotion constantly begging to be reassured.

Real love is a decision.

Deliberate.

Anchored.

Enduring.

A commitment settled within the soul:

“I will love because I have chosen love.”

That is where power begins.

When love is no longer dependent on another person’s response, it becomes inexhaustible. It gives without bargaining. It stands without permission. It remains without negotiation.

Rejection does not destroy it.

Rejection reveals its depth.

But unconditional love is not blind.

Loving someone does not mean remaining forever where you are dishonored, neglected, or harmed. It means another person’s inability to love you does not corrupt your ability to love.

Your love can remain pure even when your presence must leave.

There is a difference between continuing to love and continuing to pursue.

One can be strength.

The other can become self-abandonment.

But when two people choose this kind of love, first within themselves and then toward each other, everything changes.

Love is no longer a negotiation between two sets of needs.

It becomes a union between two settled commitments.

That is where marriage finds its true weight.

Not in emotion.

Not in convenience.

Not in perfect behavior.

But in covenant.

Two people stand before each other and declare:

“I will not love you only when you deserve it.

I will not love you only when it is easy.

I will love you because I have decided what love means.”

And that decision remains.

Through silence.

Through failure.

Through changing seasons.

Through the slow and relentless passing of time.

Until death separates what covenant joined.

That is not ordinary love.

That is chosen love.

Covenant love.

Love without an echo.

Love that does not shake.
